100 Cold Wax Landscapes Complete

Whelp. They’re done. All 100 of them. Each one on a sheet of 6x6 arches oil paper and 5x5 inches in size. A stack over 6 inches tall. Each time I finish a 100 project, I am impressed with the amount of work it takes and I vow not do one for awhile.
Usually, I struggle in the middle, hit a few low spots where I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing, somehow hit my stride around #60, with hopes of finishing out strong, but #100 often feels like I ran out of juice at the finish line.
But this time around, I felt really good. There were a few moments here and there where I struggled, but by the mid 30s, I latched onto something and ran with it. By the 80s I felt like I was figuring it out. And by the end, I wasn’t just trying to get to the finish line. In fact, I wasn’t done, and I felt like I had a lot more to say, that I wasn’t done exploring ideas, and that I could have kept going.
Which means I’m on to something.

A few people who have visited the studio recently and have gotten a chance to see them in person have all given me some really lovely and encouraging feedback. And I’m excited to continue forward with this medium and see where it takes me. But I did learn some lessons about the medium and about the work, so I thought I’d share as a way of finishing the project.
