Upcoming News - Sears Show in St George & Grounded Show in Jackson
In which I relay some news about upcoming shows and also a short winter break
Today is not for philosophical musings. Today is for news, of the art sort at least. I will attempt to keep it brief, but we all know brevity is not my best skill.
Sears Art Museum Invitational
Opening Friday, February 14th in St George, UT
This year again, I will have work showing in the Sears Art Museum as part of their annual Invitational. Last year, I had two works in the show and even won an award! So I am excited to again be included, but this year with a cold wax work.
This painting is called “High Desert Plain” measures 40x25 inches on panel and was created using my new mixed media style with cold wax, oil, watercolor. We dropped the painting off Saturday with the museum’s director who was taking a full moving van of art from the Salt Lake area back down to St. George for the show. I am hoping to be in attendance for the opening gala if all works out.

You too can attend the gala and buy art, as it is all for sale, including this piece. But go see it in person just for the details, which I am quite proud of.
“Grounded” Solo Show at Gallery Wild
Opens Friday, March 7th in Jackson, WY
Next up is my new solo show in Jackson, WY at Gallery Wild, opening on March 7th. I am currently still working on this show and will be sharing more images soon. This show will feature both encaustic and cold wax works, a mashup of my two styles. The cold wax works are definitely informing the encaustic this time.
You’ll notice the title of the show “Grounded” is from my message from the universe in November. A lot of my past artworks, especially with the encaustic focus on the trees, the mountains, and the sky, but don’t always feature a “ground”. In this show I am exploring what it means to be grounded with my art work and also life in general.
This is still very much a work in progress. Myself of course, as well as the art. I am rocking back an forth between work that I know very well how to do, and art that I don’t at all know how to make. Just that process alone has been taxing, and I am continually bringing myself back to center.
“You are ok. This is ok. This is the work - to learn, to try, to grow.”
The middle stages are messy. Honestly, the beginning and the ends are as well. I’ve scraped two paintings and started over from scratch in the last month. It is a trying process. Is this what it’s like to emerge from a cocoon?
Some Small Cold Wax Works Still Available
Out of the 100 small cold wax works I made, I’ve sold over 60 now, which is great. But just to let you know, there are still some available. $65 each, which includes shipping.
Please note, that shipping over the next couple weeks while I take a break will be slower than usual. Your patience is much appreciated.
A Short Break
And finally, I will be taking a short hiatus with these posts over the next couple weeks for a vacation and to focus on the show. I’ll be back in February to share more about my new show “Grounded” and will probably have more ramblings about the collapse of civilization as we know it, but I’ll try and keep things light.
Winter this year has been strange. We are deep in the heart of it, and I feel like a hibernating bear1 tucked away in my snow cave. An injury has kept me from skiing, and I am grateful that I have not been overwhelmed by shoveling or the usual demands of a deep winter. We are resting and nesting. It feels very necessary, especially with the cold temps this week.
Take care of yourselves.
Your work right now is so exciting!! Love reading and seeing how the cold wax, encaustic and watercolors are informing each other. Wish I could make it to Jackson for the show.
